Mohiniyattam
Mohiniyattam is a classical dance form that originated in the southern Indian state of Kerala. It is believed to have originated in the 16th century as a temple dance performed by Devadasis or temple dancers. The dance form is characterized by its graceful movements, delicate footwork, and subtle facial expressions.
The costume worn by the dancers includes a white or cream-colored sari with a gold border, and a matching blouse. The dancers also wear traditional jewelry and flowers in their hair. The music used in Mohiniyattam is primarily Carnatic, and the lyrics are usually in Malayalam, the language of Kerala.
Today, Mohiniyattam is a popular form of dance that is performed at various cultural events and festivals in Kerala and beyond. It has gained recognition as one of the eight classical dance forms of India and is treasured as an important part of the cultural heritage of Kerala.
