Akshaya Centres
Akshaya is a project implemented by the Government of Kerala, India with the aim of providing digital literacy and digital empowerment to the people of the state. Akshaya centers are basically information and communication technology (ICT) enabled service delivery centers that offer a wide range of services to the public.
The Akshaya project was launched in 2002 and has since then established over 3000 Akshaya centers across the state of Kerala. These centers are run by trained entrepreneurs who provide various services such as online bill payment, online ticket booking, e-governance services, digital literacy training, internet browsing, and more.
One of the key objectives of the Akshaya project is to bridge the digital divide in the state and make digital services accessible to people in even the remotest of locations. The project has been quite successful in achieving this objective and has played a significant role in promoting digital literacy and digital empowerment in Kerala.
Some of the key services offered by Akshaya centers include:
Online bill payment: Akshaya centers allow customers to pay their utility bills such as electricity, water, and telephone bills online.
E-governance services: Akshaya centers offer a range of e-governance services such as the issuance of certificates, licenses, and permits, and the filing of various government applications.
Digital literacy training: Akshaya centers provide digital literacy training to people of all ages, enabling them to use digital technologies effectively.
Internet browsing: Akshaya centers offer internet browsing facilities to the public, enabling them to access information and services online.
Online ticket booking: Akshaya centers allow customers to book tickets for movies, buses, trains, and flights online.
In conclusion, the Akshaya project has been instrumental in promoting digital literacy and digital empowerment in Kerala, and the Akshaya centers have become an integral part of the state's digital infrastructure. The project has also helped bridge the digital divide in the state, making digital services accessible to people in even the remotest of locations.
